Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) Sergeant Nicholas N. Pepper, 44, died in the line of duty on April 2, 2023, after a fleeing suspect rammed his patrol vehicle. The incident began shortly before 4 a.m., when Houma, LA police requested assistance with a chase on Louisiana Highway 1. The LPSO said officers and deputies pursued the suspect to Thibodaux, where he ultimately stopped his vehicle.

Investigators were trying to negotiate with the unidentified suspect when he suddenly stomped on the gas and slammed into Sgt. Pepper’s patrol car. He was rushed to the hospital where he subsequently died.
Sgt. Pepper dedicated nearly 24 years of his life to his law enforcement career, the last 15 years working in the agency’s Investigations Division, where he was a supervisor in adult investigations.

“He was an integral part of nearly every major criminal investigation in Lafourche Parish for more than a decade,” Sheriff Webre noted.

Sgt. Pepper leaves behind his wife, Christie, and three children, Nicholas Jr., Gracie and Patience.
